A ‘Pitch for Shane’ commemorates Shane Geoghegan a 28 year old Limerick rugby player who was murdered in a case of mistaken identity by gangsters in his home town.
Inspired by the work of Anthony Gormley, Ai Weiwei, the Lidice Children’s memorial and the Imperial Chinese terracotta army, the installation consists of more than 20,000 clay figurines made by the public from all over Ireland together with ceramicists and visitors from all over the world.
It is a remarkable and powerful monument to the unjust loss of life.
The project will run at Limerick City Hall until 23rd December
